Week 4 Final Year Project 1

Date: 23 August 2017

Time: 3.00 p.m

Place: TTL 1

 - As for today, I have a briefing about the Final Year Project 1 of Semester September 2017 at the TTL 1 in Universiti Kuala Lumpur British Malaysian Institute. There will be a briefing on new regulations and implementation for FYP 1 for this semester. All the students are required to attend this important briefing.

- During the briefing, the FYP coordinator was explained to us how to write the good thesis and report to get the best marks during the presentation. For chapter 1 in a thesis, there a few standard outline in introduction chapter such as:

- To write a good title of the project. The title must be short and precise, focus on a research topic, differentiates work from others in the same subject area and avoid abbreviations and jargon. While for an abstract, is a brief summary of a research article, thesis, review, conference proceeding and is often used to help the reader quickly ascertain the purpose of the report.

- Next, chapter 1 (introduction) must give the project a context or general overview and background. Next, it must explain why the project is important. Another two is shown below:

Week 13 Final Year Project 1

Date: 1 November 2017

Time: 10.30 a.m

Place: Level 5 Medical section

Today, I meet the supervisor to discuss a little bit about my project. I have to find the another gas sensor that very cheap price compared the others. So, I found the very cheap carbon dioxide sensor at http://www.myduino.com. It is located at 7, Jalan Badminton 13/29, Tadisma Business Park, 40100 Shah Alam, Selangor.

This analog gas sensor - MQ2 is used in gas leakage detecting equipment in consumer electronics and industrial markets. This sensor is suitable for detecting LPG, I-butane, propane, methane, alcohol, Hydrogen and smoke. It has high sensitivity and quick response. In addition, the sensitivity can be adjusted by the potentiometer.

SPECIFICATIONS

  • Power supply: 5V
  • Interface type: Analog
  • Wide detecting scope
  • Quick response and High sensitivity
  • Simple drive circuit
  • Stable and long lifespan
  • Size: 49.7*20mm
  • Weight: 8g

Week 12 Final Year Project 1

Date: 25 October 2017

Time: 3.00 p.m

Place: TTL 1

Today, I had final FYP briefing at TTL 1. In this briefing, the speaker told the students about the assessment marks during the Final Year Project 1. The details are below:

1) Blog - 30%
2) Proposal presentation - 35%
3) Report - 35%

 - The presentation of FYP 1 will postpone from 8 November 2017 to 22 November 2017 at Gemilang Hall, Unikl BMI.

Based on the previous studies, DHT11 is known as a basic and digital temperature and humidity sensor. It is best adapted to this project due to cost saving.

Week 11 Final Year Project 1

Date: 19 October 2017

Time: 3.00 p.m

Place: Library

Today, I made the research my project about the Internet of Things (IOT) system. The (IOT) is the network of physical objects, devices, vehicles, buildings and other items which are embedded with electronics, software, sensors, and network connectivity which enables these objects to collect and exchange data.

The (IOT) also allows objects to be sensed and controlled remotely across existing network infrastructure, creating opportunities’ for more direct integration of the physical world into computer-based systems and resulting in improved efficiency, accuracy and economic benefit.

So, I want to add the IOT system to monitor and observe the status of each the laboratory room about the level of the carbon dioxide status, the temperature status and humidity status. If that room have high carbon dioxide gas so we can know where exactly that room for more safety.

Week 10 Final Year Project 1

Date: 13 October 2017

Time: 3.00 p.m

Place: TTL 1

Today, I had workshop on Abstract Writing and Proposal Defense at TTL 1 by Dr. Reyas. In power point slide, there has a few content that have to put it. Here the content:

- Problem Statement (What is the problem you try to solve?)
- Objectives (Motivation and goals)
- What is my key idea/contribution
- How I am improving the current technology
- Methodology (what I have done, and what will do after this)

The purpose of a project  presentation are:
1) Give the assessor a sense of what idea/work is
2) Make them want to know more on project
3) Get feedback on your work

Week 9 Final Year Project 1

Date: 4 October 2017

Time: 10.00 a..m

Place: Level 5 Medical Electronic Section

Today, I meet with my supervisor to discuss further my project progress. He was suggested me to do the test carbon dioxide sensor by using the smoke from soldering iron as source of the carbon dioxide gas. So, I collect the data by test the sensor as my preliminary result.

The sensor must be place inside the box to ensure all the smoke will not spread everywhere and efficiently absorbed by the carbon dioxide sensor. The box act as the laboratory prototype. The data can be collect either real-time based or else.

- The carbon dioxide sensor inside the box to detect the smoke.
- The soldering iron will produce the smoke as source.
- The box act as laboratory prototype.
- The smoke will not spread everywhere.
- The data easy to collect and efficiently.

Week 8 Final Year Project 1

Date: 27 September 2017

Time: 9.00 a.m

Place: TTL1

Today, I had workshop on Methodology (Chapter 3) and Preliminary Result (Chapter 4) writing of Final Year Project 1 report at TTL 1. It describes the methods and technique used. It may also contain validation of methods used. This is an important component of the research/report since it informs the reader on the methods used to collect data and generate the findings reported.

This chapter describes and explains the research methodology used in the study. In this chapter wherever applicable, sampling methods, research instruments and statistical methods are indicated in the chapter. Here the example report of the methodology:

Next, the Preliminary Result for chapter 4 in the proposal of report FYP 1. For the better marks in the presentation, at least the students have one of the preliminary result such as from data collection of Arduino sensor, graph, comparison sensor with another sensor, survey of the components, the price of components and so on.
