Assalamualaikum and good morning to all of you. Today, I want to tell a bit about what is Final Year Project (FYP). FYP is compulsory for all undergraduate programmes in UniKL. Before that, there has a Final Year Project 1 briefing on 23th August 2017.
The main objective of the FYP:
-To develop problem-solving, analysis, synthesis and evaluation skills in Engineering field.
-To develop personal and social skills through various means:
- Communicating with an expert from industries
- Discussion with supervisor/lecturer and colleagues
- Self-learning
- Problem-solving report writing
- Oral presentation
- Time management
- Self-confidence
- Team-work

For my progress, I was read a little bit about the detection of humidity and carbon dioxide. The article is about detection of high-level carbon dioxide emissions using a compact optical fiber based mid-infrared sensor system for applications in environmental pollution monitoring. Based on the article, there is a highly compact optical fiber-based sensor system for measurement of high concentrations CO2 gas emissions in the modern automotive exhaust is presented.
Figure 1: Optical fiber as a sensor system in automotive exhaust |
The sensor system works based on the principle of open-path direct absorption spectroscopy in the mid-infrared wavelength range. The response of the sensor to high concentrations of CO2 gas is presented and the result is compared with that of a commercial flue gas analyzer.
Lastly, the assessments in FYP 1 is shown below: Figure 2: Kind optical Fibre |
