Week 7 Final Year Project 1

Date: 15 September 2017

Place: Library Unikl BMI

Time: 3.00 p.m

Activity:
- Last week, I had the workshop on Introduction (Chapter 1) and Literature Review (Chapter 2) Writing at TTL 1 on 3 p.m until 5 p.m. All the students were compulsory to attend this workshop with an invited speaker. The speaker is Dr. Jawad Ali Shah who is senior lecturer Universiti Kuala Lumpur British Malaysian Institute. Here is Dr. Jawad Ali Shah biodata:

Dr. Jawad Ali Shah
  1. PhD in Electronic Engineering, International Islamic University Islamabad-Pakistan, 2015.
  2. Master of Science in Telecommunication Engineering, University of Eng & Technology Pakistan,  2009.
  3. Bachelor of Science in Electrical Eng, University of Eng & Technology Pakistan,  2001.
  4.  jawad@unikl.edu.my 03-6184 1000 ext 301
- It is a critical review of literature related to the topic. It is meant to act as a base for the experimental/analytical section of the thesis. Literature selected must be up to date, analyzed and synthesized logically. It is not a mere summary of works of different authors. Results of various studies are studied, compared and contrasted. The review usually concludes with a brief summary of the literature and its implications for the problems.

 - The literature review format - Results of various studies are studied, compared and contrasted. The review usually concludes with a brief summary of the literature and its implications for the problem. All first letters of principal words are capitalized and the sub-heading is typed flush with left margin.

- This chapter surveys previous literature and studies relevant to the field and related topics. In some cases the implications discussed form an empirical or theoretical rational for the hypotheses. The qualities of a good proposal which are:
  1. Informative title
  2. Self-sufficient and convincing abstract
  3. Relevant previous work
  4. Well-defined assessment parameters

Week 6 Final Year Project 1

Date: 6 September 2017

Time: 9.00 a.m

Place: Open access UniKL BMI

Activity:
- Today, I do some survey about the price of the carbon dioxide sensor and humidity sensor. A carbon dioxide sensor is an instrument for the measurement of carbon dioxide gas. The most common principles for CO2 sensors are infrared gas sensors (NDIR) and chemical gas sensors. Measuring carbon dioxide is important for monitoring indoor air quality.

- A humidity sensor senses, measures and regularly reports the relative humidity in the air. It measures both moisture and air temperature. Relative humidity, expressed as a percent, is the ratio of actual moisture in the air to the highest amount of moisture air at that temperature can hold. The warmer the air is, the more moisture it can hold, so relative humidity changes with fluctuations in temperature.

Price of humidity sensor

- Most humidity sensors use capacitive measurement to determine the amount of moisture in the air. This type of measurement relies on two electrical conductors with a non-conductive polymer film lying between them to create an electrical field between them. Moisture from the air collects on the film and causes changes in the voltage levels between the two plates. This change is then converted into a digital measurement of the air’s relative humidity after taking the air temperature into account.

Price of CO2 sensors

- Next, I find also the circuit of the humidity sensor and carbon dioxide sensor by using the Arduino circuit. Arduino is an open-source computer hardware and software company, project, and user community that designs and manufactures single-board microcontroller and microcontroller kits for building digital devices and interactive objects that can sense and control objects in the physical world.

Week 2 Final Year Project 1

Date: 9 August 2017

Time: 3.30 p.m

Place: Medical Electronic Section Level 5

Activity:

- Today, my friends and I were gathered together to discuss the title of the Final Year Project (FYP 1) at the medical electronic engineering section on level 5 with our supervisor. There were total four members including me to do the project under Mr. Shah Rizailli. The four members are:

  1.      Amira Rasyida Binti Abd Raof- 51215215030
  2.      Khairiyah Binti Mahalil- 51215215089
  3.      Afiqah Binti Khairul Anuar- 51215216137
  4.     Muhammad Afifi Bin Mohd Shukri- 51215216152
Muhammad Afifi

Amira Rasyida, Khairiyah, Afiqah

- After we discussed with our supervisor, he told us a little bit about the abstract in the writing the thesis. The abstract is a digest of the entire thesis and should be given the same careful attention as the main text. Reference to literature is not normally made in the abstract. Abbreviations or acronyms must be preceded by the full term at the first use.

- An abstract should not normally exceed 350 words. It includes a brief statement of the problem, a concise description of the research method and design, summary of major findings including the significance or the lack of it, and conclusions.

Week 5 Final Year Project 1

Date: 30 August 2017

Time: 9.00 p.m

Place: Medical engineering section level 5

Activity:
- Today, I meet my supervisor to discuss the progress of my project at medical engineering section at level 5. I have to find the humidity sensor, carbon dioxide sensor either use Arduino circuit, microcontroller circuit or using the Labview/DAQ. It is related my project which is detection carbon dioxide and humidity.

- Next, I have to find the information carbon dioxide how to produce it by using candle or smoke from soldering iron. So, I choose by using smoke from soldering iron because it easy to produce carbon dioxide.

- The format of the report must be printed on A4 white, unlined paper. Printing must appear on only one side of each unless such illustrations as charts, drawings or photographs need to be printed on facing pages for clarity. Computers or word processors are recommended for writing report.

Week 3 Final Year Project 1

Date: 16 August 2017

Time: 3.00 p.m

Place: Medical Electronic Section

Activity:
- As for today, my team members were decided to choose the title Final Year Project (FYP 1) with our supervisor. The titles were chosen as shown below:
  1. Detection of Carbon Dioxide and Humidity
  2. Development of an Aedes Mosquito Detector
  3. False Alarm Detection of Medical Device
  4. Investigation on Unknown Skin Region of Atopic Eczema Patient Using Image Analysis
  5.
- Three topics or title include hardware and software which are Detection of Carbon Dioxide and Humidity, Development of an Aedes Mosquito Detector and False Alarm Detection of Medical Device. But, for the Investigation on Unknown Skin Region of Atopic Eczema Patient Using Image Analysis is only under research project.
- The students must choose either to do the hardware and software project or to do the research only in FYP 1 in each of the semesters.

False Alarm Detection

  Image Analysis

Carbon Dioxide and Humidity

Aedes Mosquito Detector

- After that, I learned how to write acknowledgment in writing a thesis. This sub-section is not compulsory but most research reports convey appreciation to those who have been involved in the study. For example is "I would like to express my special thanks of gratitude to my supervisor as well as our dean who gave me the golden opportunity to do this wonderful project, which also helped me in doing a lot of Research and I came to know about so many new things. I am really thankful to them.
